Southern Ohio Speedway Releases 2013 Schedule
WHEELERSBURG, OH-With one more event still remaining in 2012, the Southern Ohio Speedway is proud to release the schedule for the upcoming 2013 season.
The 2013 season will get underway even earlier than the 2012 season as the speedway will be open on Saturday, March 24th for the first of two pre-season Test Nf Tunes. Another Test Nf Tune will follow on Saturday, March 31st with the season officially getting underway on Saturday, April 7th with the gOpening Nighth races featuring Late Models-$2,000 to win, Modifieds, Sport Mods, and Pure Stocks. While the season opener will be on a Saturday night to allow for an earlier start time because of the cooler early April temperatures, the track will return once again to a Friday night weekly schedule beginning on April 13th.
With the announcement of the racing card on Opening Night comes the announcement of the trackfs new fourth class, the Pure Stock division. The Pure Stock division will be the most economical class at SOS. Just like with the Sport Mod division, the track will be teching the class heavily with zero tolerance for cheating. This class is intended to be a class where drivers can be in a competitive car for no more than $3,000. Track management is finalizing the rules for the class and expects to have them released within the next couple of weeks.
Weekly racing programs at SOS this season will consist of Late Models-$1,500 to win and $175 to start, Modifieds-$600 to win and $100 to start, Sport Mods-Car Count Based Purse, and Pure Stocks-Car Count Based Purse. The trackfs weekly Late Model purse is among the highest in the country for a Friday night track. The first, second, and third place positions are the only positions that will see a pay change in the Late Model division this season while 4th-20th will remain the same as it was last season. The purse will be bumped up to $2,000 to win for Opening Night, the Memorial Day Championships, and Hall of Fame Night with more nights to be added with sponsorship. The track will stick with the same four class lineup card for every weekly show in 2013 except for the Sprint Car shows.
Each weekly show in 2013 will have an increased emphasis on the race fan experience. Every single race night in 2013 will have something special going on, whether it is a special promotion such as gMeet the Drivers Nighth or a special event race for one of our classes. Track management also believes that the on-track product is the single most important factor with the race fan experience as the trackfs top priority will be to provide a tacky, minimal dust, multi-groove racing surface for each and every race.
The trackfs traditional special event races will return in 2013 with several of the races moved to different dates. This yearfs g18th Annual Southern 100, the marquee event on the 2013 schedule, will feature a new format, higher purses, and new date for 2013. The g18th Annual Southern 100 will be a two day show this season with the gSouthern 100 Qualifierh on Friday, May 3rd and the gSouthern 100 Championshiph on Saturday, May 4th. These will be two seperate shows for a total of 100 feature laps with Saturdayfs winner the g18th Annual Southern 100 champion. The gSouthern 100 Qualifierh will feature a 40 lap, $4,000 to win Late Model show while the gSouthern 100 Championshiph will feature a 60 lap, $12,000 to win Late Model show. With a possible $16,000 to win up for grabs over the two days for the Late Models, the Modifieds will have a possible $2,000 on the line with an $800 to win show on Friday and a $1,000 to win show on Saturday.
The g3rd Annual Southern 50 will move to a July 4th weekend date this season as the race will be ran on Friday, July 5th. The 2013 gSouthern 50 will once again pay $6,000 to win for Late Models. The g3rd Annual Southern Showdownh returns in 2013 with a new date. The show will be ran on Friday, June 14th and will pay Late Models $3,000 to win. Eddie Carrier Jr. won both of those events in 2012.
The high speed thrills of 410 Sprint Car racing will return to Southern Ohio Speedway two times in 2013. The OVSCA 410 Sprint Car Series will take to the track on Friday, June 7th and on Friday, August 9th for the g3rd Annual H&L Motorsports 25.h Track management is currently looking at the possibility of adding a third OVSCA 410 Sprint Car show to the schedule.
Southern Ohio Speedway will continue with itfs theme of keeping things as affordable as possible for the fans and racers in 2013. Weekly general admission and pit admission prices will remain the same as the 2012 prices that featured big price breaks in the pits and stands for kids. General and pit admission prices will only be raised for four races in 2013 and will actually be dropped for one race. Racers will once again pay NO track registration fees and tentatively no additional entry fees for any of the 2013 specials.
gWe are really excited about our upcoming 2013 seasonh, stated H&L Motorsports co-owner T. J. Layne. gOur schedule features a great weekly racing series along with some excellent special events. Most importantly, we finally figured out towards the end of this season what we need to do to the racing surface to make for a tacky, minimal dust, multi-groove surface each week. Because of that, we feel like our fans are gonna be treated to excpetionally good racing each and every race in 2013. One thing is for sure, an excellent racing surface for the fans and drivers will be our top priority each and every week. We canft wait for March to get here to get the new season started!h
With the 2013 schedule now released, SOS would like to remind race fans that one more event remains in 2012. On Saturday, November 10th the track will host the g1st Annual Fall Havoch Enduro. The event tabbed gthe ultimate Enduroh, will feature a Time Trial Challenge, Dash for Cash, Heat Races, and the Main Event. Gates will open at noon with the Time Trial Challenge starting the on track action at 1:30 pm. General admission is only $5 while pit passes are $10. Kids 12 and under get in free in both general admission and the pits. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.
