WHEELERSBURG, OH-Race number ten of the 2012 season will get underway at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, July 13th with the g2nd Annual GCP Engines Southern Showdownh. On the racing card will be Late Models paying $3,000 to win, the gGCP Engines 30 paying Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds $3,000 to win plus a $400 to win Non-Qualifiers race, and Classic Cars. This event kicks off the biggest weekend for the UMP Modified division in the region as the class will race for $3,000 to win Friday and $5,000 to win on Saturday at the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park.
Late Model Preview Last yearfs Late Model portion of the gSouthern Showdownh was one of the most exciting races of the entire season. Following an early race incident battling for the lead with R. J. Conley, gThe Showstopperh Tim Dohm came from dead last to regain the lead in only 12 laps. Dohm appeared to have the race won until he got held up in lap traffic, allowing Eddie Carrier Jr. to pass him on the last lap to take the lead. Carrier is expected to be a contender in this yearfs Southern Showdown as he has five feature wins on the season, including wins in the Pepsi Southern 100 and the Southern 50. A win on Friday would give Carrier a sweep of the three big Late Model shows at SOS this season.
Late Models will be running a 30 lap feature on Friday.
Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modified Preview Fridayfs gGCP Engines 30 UMP Modified portion of the gSouthern Showdownh is the biggest race of the season at SOS for the class. Last yearfs event saw an incredible battle between former World 100 winner Bart Hartman and Joey Kramer for the race lead. Hartman was able to hold off Kramer and become the winner of the inaugural Southern Showdown. 37 UMP Modifieds were in attendance for this race last season.
There are lots of storylines heading into Fridayfs gGCP Engines 30.h Will gThe Bartmanh Bart Hartman be able to repeat last years performance? Joey Kramer finished second last season and has won both $1,000 to win shows this year, can Kramer win this years gShowdownh? Points leader Jeremy Rayburn has five feature wins on the season and has finished worse than third only once, can Rayburn beat the out of town cars and claim the win? One thing is for certain, the racing will be incredible!
Another added bonus to this event is a 12 lap, $400 to win, $50 to start Non-Qualifiers race that will start 20 cars. This means that 40 cars will get to run in a feature and have a chance to earn feature money.
Classic Car Preview The racing in the Classic Car division has been excellent this season. Mike Christy has won all but one feature in the class this year, with Brett Carey claiming the other feature win. It should be another great night of racing in this division.
NO entry fees for any division! (Except for pit passes)
