i heard that Jr did make a few laps in Chris' car last year??? anyone else hear that?
yeah thats true, it was after the topless race, he looked pretty good , they had sprayed water onto the track in turn one where the where cleaning the drag strip so he couldnt go in like he needed, i think i clocked him at a 16.60 i believe he only ran about 8 or 10 laps

I've been around mountain motor speedway since the early 70s. Ever since the Tom Carver and JC Stone days, if anyone remembers them. In the late 70s and early 80s mountain motor speedway was the hottest track around east of the Mississippi. In my opinion, Charlie Swartz was a real inivater who push everything to the limit. He was the fastest of his day. When rules went on these cars and the wings came off, Bloomquist ruled the track every were he went, Swartz never really came up to speed on the setups on these cars. I don't really know how anyone can compare any of these local drivers to these 2 men.
I remember Walter Combs well. I have recently made friends with nephew of his and they can tell some stories. I was only a boy then but I don't remember him getting beat. Mountain Motor was a showpiece of dirt track racing back in the day. We've seen em all there. Rayburn, Schwartz, Bloomquist, Jeff Purvis etc, etc. Maybe someday they'll put the bank back in the track and the cars will quit chasing each others tails against the inside wall. I lived out of state for several years until recently and I'm saddened by what it has become. I'm not really complaining, I just want the younger fans to know what it used to be.
My favorite driver of the regulars was Paul Harris.
I started going in the late 80's and it was the best back then... I think alot of that track being so good had to do with Chris Blair .... I remember most of the fans having green shirts for Paul and Yellow for David Dixon , lol then you had us Steve Francis fans .... I miss those days , does anyone remember the night ( I'm not sure if it was the Mountain Classic ) but Bloomer got beat and banged on until his poor car was beat to death?

I remember XX and Tutie Adkins, He was from Huntington W. Va. I think,,, he came to mountain motor in the mid 70s. He had a couple of buddys that came with him at that time, Don Graley, Charles Perry, Mountain motor had a bounty on Don Graley for awhile, Graley was the first car to ever run wing on the car that I remember,,,,,, it was a roof mounted wing,,,, everyone laughed at him at first,,,,, but he sure got the last laugh in the end. I sure missed those days. How about Jimmy Cornett? or Dennis Bailiff. Does anyone remember Billy Reed doing a article from the Louisville Couriers Journal and Times? My dad, "Gordon Hall" was in that Article.
2010 191 speedway & Joe's Race Parts 4-mod showdown champion,,,,,,,,,, 2010 Lucky 7 Speedway Outlaw 4 cylinder track record holder at 16.89,,,, 2012 191 Speedways Wince Mayabb Memorial Modified 4 Cylinder Champion
