I just noticed the addition of this thread to the board. I will tell ya... the last time I was on HMS grounds was not to many months ago when some friends were out there working and I couldnt help but to stand, stare and cry a little. I became close to some of the best people I have in my life right now ..... standing right there in those pits. I shared some of the greatest defeats and weeped over some of the most disappointing outcomes in those pits. and had the best of friends right there by my side to comfort me. I dont think I will ever become as attached to a place as I was to HMS for those few years. You could always count on what cars were going to be parked in the pits, it was like family reunion every weekend cause you KNEW who would be there and man, they never disappointed when they hit the track. The Paul Harris/Chuckie May battles in the late models. The shows between Greg Lucas, Chris Combs, Jamie SLone in 2004. Greg was so hard to beat but man..... on the nights that Chris or Jamie pulled it off the crowd was amazed and it was really something to beat ol George to line one night! I will post a bunch of pics that I have from my HMS days and share them with everyone...... that track was HARD to say goodbye too!!!!

Kenny Chesney says it best "I Go Back" and I do go back. In my memory I can still see the big purple rig with the No. 28 rig parked side by side. I can see Shannon and Paul parked side by side. I can remember Dan and the Weststar gang parked near the concession stand. James Grigsby parked near the gate. And the friends that were made. Half Mountain was when I first met Denise and Jay, Cruise, Queen, Daisey, 4barrel (on his crutches), Ms. Crystal, Ms. Michelle. The tail gate parties hosted by Ms. Queen, the birthday parties, the stepping on Chuckie's foot, the look in a little girl's eyes when she gets to meet her heros for the first time, the sweating of her hands when she got to meet them. All priceless and precious. HMS will always hold a special place in my heart. Like Crystal said that track was hard to say goodbye too.

HMS is my favorite track of all time just because of the people. I met some great people up there and saw some of the best fender to fender racing you will ever see. I remember chuckie sliding across peoples nose off turn 4 for the checkers. It was a great facility and atmosphere I just live about 15 min. from there so I went and checked it out one last time but they had pretty much cleared all the buildings and bleachers but the remains of the the surface and walls were still there, It still had all memories though.

I loved the track, I was there a few times, and there was some really good late model racing on the track. I remember eddie carrier jr. was leading a race and started smoking the last few laps and on the last lap after he pasted the flag he blew his engine.

I was standing in the pits on the backstretch beside of the owner and he was nervous, it started smoking a little with about 5 laps to go, I think it was a bob race, I loved that place. I remember the first season when eddie jr won the first 4 races I think and he started spinning it around in the infield after the race and hit a truck, he was still pumped in victory lane.

I miss the old HMS. First track I ever ran on. I loved it. Member tellin my brother to 'give er hell' ever time he roll out in the bomber. Now I have to pass the place ever day to go to school and to to salyerville. My buds think im crazy whene a tear comes from my eye ever time I place the place. All all the great memorys. Watch all the great late models batte it out. Watch bucky in that ol' 50 bomber run around that track.

I loved that place. I was just little boy but it was still fun sitting in the pits waiting to see how good my cousin would do in the bombers.

I personally, never attended a race at HMS but my husband did several times and he too has fond memories. Just a few days ago we we were on youtube lookin at track videos and found one about HMS. It was a very nice slideshow. I wish I could think of the guys name who created it so I could give him kudos. I'm sure all you guys would love it! If you haven't seen it, you should definitley get on youtube and check it out. It was called A Tribute to Half Mountain Speedway. It contained a bunch of great photos.
